YWCA Nevada Start

When I lived and worked in Japan, I participated in a conversational Japanese language class at the YWCA Japan. It was many years later that I traveled to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and encountered what is now my drive and passion in life.

Three years ago, while I was living in Kuala Lumpur (KL), Malaysia I attended the YWCA Kuala Lumpur at the invitation of a Japanese friend, who through YWCA KL, had gained advice for her passport to make Malaysia her second home.

I attended their vibrant Wednesday Morning Club which provided a variety of activities for older, seasoned women, mostly retired.

Another arm of the YWCA KL that I experienced was an opportunity to volunteer time speaking English conversation with economically disadvantaged young women and girls. They are admitted on pay as they are able basis, to a one year full time course with board and lodging, in selected skill courses.

YWCA Kuala Lumpur have graduated 13 classes. Most graduates after one year are motivated, encouraged and are provided assistance to continue their education at the University level. Others are empowered to start their own businesses or obtained referral to other jobs in their field of study.

Most important, all that attend are becoming empowered, self-sustaining, resourceful individuals, given a purpose and a greater level of self-esteem. YWCA KL continue to advance young girls in many fields creating hope in their own lives and families, their communities and their country.

I returned to Las Vegas and thought this happy ending could be that of YWCA Nevada!

After two intense years of courting YWCA USA to establish an Affiliation in Las Vegas; and remaining dedicated to the purpose to do for the marginalized women and girls of Nevada what the YWCA is still doing for the same in Malaysia, IT BECAME OFFICIAL, YWCA Nevada gave birth on November 8, 2014. Thank you (on behalf of those yet to benefit) to all that gave of their time, talent and resources to make this happen.

Many Blessings and Good Wishes for Your Health and Happiness with the Best of Life to You All.
